Profile of a Graduate

At Rocky Boy Public Schools, we believe education is more than academic achievement. Our Profile of a Graduate represents our shared vision of developing students who are academically prepared, culturally grounded, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, values, and character needed to succeed in college, the workforce, and life.

Rooted in the Rocky Boy School Philosophy, our graduate profile honors the vision of the Chippewa-Cree Elders who advocated for a school district where their children could receive a quality education within their own community, free from the discrimination and cultural exclusion many experienced in boarding schools and surrounding off-reservation schools. Our Elders envisioned an education where rigorous Western academics and Indigenous language, culture, and traditional teachings would be equally valued. Their vision reflects tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and the inherent right of our people to shape the education of future generations.

Inspired by the Seven Grandfather Teachings shared among Indigenous Nations throughout the United States and Canada, our Profile of a Graduate is built upon seven foundations: Wisdom, Truth, Kinship, Love, Respect, Humility, and Bravery. These foundations emphasize academic excellence, Indigenous identity, relationships, emotional well-being, communication, career readiness, and leadership.

Our Profile of a Graduate is more than a poster. It is a commitment to our students, families, Elders, and community to honor the vision of those who came before us while preparing future generations for the opportunities and challenges ahead. We want every Rocky Boy Star to leave our schools as a confident reader, writer, critical thinker, problem solver, and responsible individual who knows who they are, understands where they come from, and is prepared for where they are going.

Our Elders did not envision an education where our children would have to choose between academic success and their Indigenous identity. They envisioned an education where both could thrive.

This is the vision we carry forward as we prepare our students to continue walking in a good way.
